FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

OPERATING HOURS AND DAYS

Our After School Program is in session Monday through Friday from 2:30pm to 6:30pm.  Our program schedule corresponds closely with the NYC Department of Education Schedule.

 

HOLIDAY CLOSURES

The program will be closed on most major holidays consistent with the NYC Department of Education Schedule.  The program will be open on some"soft" holidays for an additional fee.

HALF DAYS

Our program is open and available on days that schools have an early dismissal. There is an additional cost for this service. Half day hours are from the time of dismissal to our regular closing time of 6:30pm.  Participants may join the program at 2:30pm on half days for no additional fee.

FULL-TIME VS. PART-TIME

Full-time after school services are considered 4-5 days per week. Part-time after school services is limited to 3 days per week. We do not offer part-time services less than 3 days per week. If selecting part-time services, you must select the days of the week you wish for your child to attend (e.g. Monday, Tuesday, Friday). These days will remain consistent throughout the month, however, may be changed from month-to-month based on our capacity and availability. If enrolled for part-time services, you may add a one-time, single day service for an additional cost of $30 per day which will include pick-up and escort services if needed.

 

PICK-UP & ESCORT

We offer optional pick-up and escort service from PS 178 and PS 153, which are located in the Co-op City Educational Park. We also service some school bus drop-off locations based on proximity to our site as well as time of arrival. All after school participants are escorted by one of our trained staff to our site on foot. We offer an optional later pick-up for children requiring a later pick-up due to being registered in an extra-curricular activity in school, however, there is a daily surcharge per occurrence.

 

UNESCORTED WALKERS

Participants allowed to arrive and leave our site without escort may arrive on site any time after 2:30pm. These participants must have a signed consent form on file permitting them to leave our site unattended.

 

SNACKS & FOOD

All participants will receive one snack consisting of their choice of chips and water or juice box on standard days. Please feel free to pack additional snacks for your child as you see fit. Extended day participants must have breakfast (optional) and lunch. We have a microwave and refrigerator on site for warming and storing food. Once participants are on-site, they will not be allowed to leave to purchase food from the local vendors. We kindly ask that parents NOT order food for their children via Grubhub, DoorDash, or any of the other third party delivery services.

 

MARTIAL ARTS

Participants also registered for martial arts classes will be given an assigned cubby to keep their uniform and sneakers on site for when they are taking their classes. Parents are urged to check uniforms regularly to ensure cleanliness and to launder when necessary. Students wil be escorted to the main martial arts site upon the beginning of their class and escorted back to the Extension Center upon conclusion of their class. There is an additional charge for martial arts classes.

 

FACILITY, ACTIVITIES, & AMENITIES

Our after school room is located at our new Extension Center located on the lower level promenade of the Dreiser Shopping Center. It boasts two 85" television screens for optimal gaming as well as movie days, three unisex rest rooms, WiFi, and ample school supplies. Our original after school site located on the lower level of our main martial arts site will be used as our overflow room depending on capacity as well as our "quiet room" for required reading assignments.

 

HOMEWORK MONITORING & ASSISTANCE

Each day, we log which homework assignments our participants have as well as whether it was completed. Your child's log is available to you at any time for your review. We designate approximately 60-90 minutes of quiet down time to ensure homework assignments are started or completed. We also assist any child with their assignments where required.
